Shipshape Sheets: the back office for small businesses

The publisher's second work is in English. It is made for small trade and service businesses that handle their office work without accounting software.

In a small trade business, the actual work is often the easier part. Writing quotes, chasing invoices, collecting receipts and knowing at the end whether a job made money: that happens in the evenings and on weekends. Shipshape Sheets brings this office work into an order you maintain yourself in Excel or Google Sheets.

What’s inside

At its core is the Back Office workbook. Its sheets are linked to each other: customers, jobs with the profit per job, quotes, invoices with payment status and days overdue, expenses, a monthly profit and loss statement and a tax set-aside. A dashboard shows where things stand at a glance.

On top of that come 18 separate tools, from a pricing and markup calculator through time tracking, scheduling and a mileage log to a 13-week cash flow plan. Inputs go in blue cells, calculated values appear in gray ones. The files contain no macros and work with Excel 2016 or later on Windows and Mac, with Microsoft 365 and with Google Sheets.

Who it’s for

Shipshape Sheets is written for businesses with one to about 15 people, such as painters, cleaning services, landscapers, electrical and plumbing services or small renovation companies. It is published in English for businesses in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. Each business enters its own tax rates; the kit does not replace tax advice.
